Progress & projects

Through our research and networks in the sector, the SSC team received interest from 18 potential projects comprising over 100 primary producers, buyers and supply chain partners.

We selected six diverse projects that will help a number of small food and drink enterprises in Wales to access new markets and demonstrate the commercial benefits of doing business in more sustainable ways.

Each project will gain access to SSC support from January 2010 – September 2010. Specific budgets have been assigned to each and will cover all project costs including external consultancy and mentoring.

The projects we have selected are diverse. Some focus on building on existing supply chains, whilst others are about establishing new ones.  Some consist of groups of primary producers, others involve working with businesses or organisations further up the supply chain.

A strict eligibility criteria was designed to assist in selecting appropriate projects. This criteria included:

 * the number of primary producers that will benefit from the project;

 * the practicality of achieving the project objectives within the timeframe;

 * the potential to replicate the project activities and outputs elsewhere;

 * Commitment and leadership of the participants to embrace sustainable practices;

 * whether the project has the potential to illustrate various aspects of a sustainable supply chain.

Each project is being benchmarked using a questionnaire which the SSC team has developed, to enable us to monitor progress against specific sustainability criteria.

You can find out more about each of these projects by following the links on the right hand side of this page.
